Bone by Bone: Rewriting the Body

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

What is part of the body and what isn't? How do we contend with loss, growth, love, harm—both inside and outside the body? Why not say “bodymind” instead of separating the two? What’s behind that separation? This panel insists on connections between the body and history, the body and mythology, the body and language. Think "corporation," think "student body." Think of the particular gendered and racialized bodies facing institutional violence every day. The writers on this panel are doing urgent work that wrestles with representing, expanding the body. We are interested in what is private vs. public, the strangeness of “having” a body at all, and how poetry can investigate these borders, this strangeness. Drawing on our own work and work by Bhanu Kapil, Frank Bidart, Joan Brady, Louise Glück, among others, we invite festival participants to join us in a conversation on how to rewrite, re-embody the body.
